About
Our Story
Minimalist Gardener grew out of a simple, but frustrating, realisation. Gardening does not need more stuff. It needs better tools, better choices and a better understanding of the places we garden in.
In 2020, we bought a neglected property marked for demolition. The house was failing and the garden had been ignored for years, but there was potential buried in both. We decided to bring the garden back with Australian native plants and Indigenous species, keeping some of the best established ornamentals. What followed was an education in the extraordinary.
Australian plants have been solving this country's problems for millions of years: extreme heat, unreliable rainfall, poor soils and long dry spells. As our garden came back to life, birds, insects and reptiles visited. An entire ecosystem appeared that simply doesn't show up when you're planting the wrong things in the wrong place.
At the same time, we struggled to find quality garden tools that matched the experience. Too much of what was available felt disposable, gimmicky or completely disconnected from how gardening happens in Australia.
That frustration became the foundation for Minimalist Gardener. We exist to be the destination for Australian native gardening — the resources, the tools and the philosophy, all in one place. Everything we share and stock is chosen to support gardens built for this climate and ecology.
We're for the life of your garden.
Our Mission
We believe in buying well and buying once, so we prioritise tools that perform and accessories that reduce waste rather than create it. We want to equip Australian gardeners with premium gardening tools, sustainable garden accessories and beautiful gifts that balance form and function.
We champion craftsmanship that lasts, materials that respect the earth and designs that make gardening easier. Each item we offer — from hand-forged tools to children's tools — is chosen to support gardens built for this place.

Our Resources
Sharing what we are learning.
Our resources focus on native plants, resilience in a changing climate and the shift from ornamental gardens to ones that support biodiversity and native wildlife. That means paying attention to insects and birds, soil health, water use and long-term approaches rather than short-term results.
If you are looking to deepen your understanding of native Australian gardening, these are a good place to start:
How to tell if your garden is truly alive — and what to do if it isn't.
Creating a native wildflower meadow in your own Australian garden.
Using Australian native plants in softer, cottage-style gardens.
New to native gardening? Our Guide to Australian Native Gardening covers everything from understanding your soil and climate zone to choosing the right plants, tools and seasonal care.
Why Choose Us
Native gardening is the most intelligent, rewarding and magical approach to gardening in Australia. We hope to change the way people think of their gardens — to be places that genuinely support the biodiversity and wildlife that make this country extraordinary.
We've wasted money on tools that bent, broke or ended up in landfill. We've chased quick fixes that promised a lot and delivered very little. We've learned the hard way that buying well once is better than buying cheap over and over.
Every product is selected because it does a specific job well, feels good to use and is made to hold up in Australian conditions.
By simplifying native gardening, we hope to make it easier for people to choose local plants, support biodiversity and work with Australia's unique ecology rather than against it.
Australia has some of the most threatened biodiversity on Earth. Private gardens collectively represent an enormous opportunity to reverse that. Choosing a native plant over an exotic and pulling out the agapanthus are small acts with real consequences.
