Grow your own bush tucker garden from seed
The Native Seed Box Bush Tucker Collection is a curated mix of seed bombs and seeds covering some of Australia's most interesting and useful edible native species. From native thyme and spinach to quandong, native potato and mountain pepper, this collection has everything needed to grow a genuine bush tucker garden at home — in an open garden or in pots, with no prior experience required.
Seed bombs and seeds — everything included
The collection combines seed bombs with smoke and hot water treatment seeds, along with everything needed to use them correctly. Seed bombs require no tools or preparation — simply throw them into a garden bed or pot and let the clay do the rest. The clay casing protects the seeds until conditions are right for germination, at which point they break open and the plants establish themselves. Seed bombs have been used for centuries across Japan and Europe to revegetate landscapes and rewild the earth.
The smoke and hot water treatment seeds introduce you to the fascinating practice of pre-treating native seeds before germination — a technique that mimics the natural conditions many Australian species need to break dormancy. A biodegradable germination soak bag and smoke-infused granules are included along with a full instruction leaflet.
What you can grow
The collection covers a wide range of bush tucker species suited to salads, roasted dishes, jams, chutneys and fresh eating. Species include desert raisin, native spinach, wild tomato, native thyme, native currant, yam daisy, native pig-face and blue flax paroo lily, with additional species included when in season. Current additions to the collection include some exceptional finds — native potato with its nutty, earthy tuber; quandong producing bright red tart fruit prized for jams and desserts; mountain pepper, long used in Indigenous bush tucker as a natural pepper substitute; and Australian carrot, a small root vegetable eaten much like a traditional carrot.
